Overview of the Program

Injuries suffered while on the job are different than all other types of personal injuries from a legal standpoint—as a result, those who find themselves in this situation will almost always need the help of a competent and sympathetic attorney to navigate the forms, rules and processes associated with the workers’ compensation system. Attorneys that handle or want to handle workers’ compensation cases must therefore stay up to date on the law, process and procedure of the system.

With this program, participants will:

  • Become familiar with the workers’ compensation system as a whole via discussion and presentation by our expert panel,
  • Recognize the importance of communicating with your client to understand his or her expectations and needs related to the case,
  • Learn to assess the client’s injury and consider the potential value and remedies available for the injury,
  • Evaluate all options available to the client from a settlement perspective,
  • Consider all aspects of the case to weigh settlement against other options,
  • Examine the components necessary for a successful appearance at a hearing, from evidence to witnesses to general strategies,
  • Understand how the appeals process proceeds in workers’ compensation cases, and
  • Gain confidence in representing clients in stressful situations with significant consequences.
