Overview of the Program

Criminal procedure is a constantly evolving niche within the practice of law. An understanding of this fusion of Supreme Court cases, federal rules and police methodology is vital for any attorney that practices or hopes to practice criminal law. 

With this program, participants will:

  • Become familiar with the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure and others sources of law relating to criminal procedure,
  • Recognize the protections offered to criminal suspects by multiple Constitutional Amendments,
  • Evaluate police procedures that can violate guaranteed rights and protections,
  • Consider major Supreme Court cases that consider procedural elements,
  • Examine the requirements of search and seizure,
  • Understand how confessions can and can’t proceed from a procedural standpoint,
  • Assess identification procedures under current caselaw and rules, and
  • Gain confidence in representing clients in stressful situations with significant consequences.
